FRANCES TOWNLEY R.I.P.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our regulars, the artist Frances Townley. Frances had been fighting cancer for some years, but at the same time made the most of her time left on earth.
The Funeral will be at the Robin Hood Cemetary, Streetsbrook Road, Solihull B90 3NL at 2pm on Friday 4th December, with the wake at the Arden Club, Sharmans Cross Rd, Solihull B91 1RG afterwards.
Frances made this wonderful sketch of another of our regulars, Peter Wooley, at the drawing group.
Our thoughts go out to husband John and all her family. Frances will be truly missed as she was a big part of the arts scene in both Solihull and Birmingham. Any donations should go to the Marie Curie Trust. There will be an auction of her paintings, but there will be more news on that as and when it happens.
Saranjit Birdi asked me to put this on the website inviting members of the group to an exhibition opening at The Drum in Aston on Thursday 26th March. There will be live music and dance and he's asking you to bring sketchbooks and sketch it. After that he's proposing that people move on to a bar where there's live Jazz.
Sketches from the opening can be emailed to Saranjit for display at the exhibition.

Saranjit will present life drawings and video documentation from drawing sessions held at the Friends Institute and the MAC. In these works he expresses his passion for draughtsmanship, the brevity of line to explain form and character. Many of our regulars will recognise themselves in some of the drawings.
The other artists joining him in the exhibition are painter Penny Mason and multi media artist Wendy Smith.
The Private View is Tuesday 9th August 2011 5:30pm - 8:30pm
The Friday group run by Paul Bartlett has been added to the site as an equal part of what we offer. We hope this will give what is a very good drawing group a much needed boost.
Artists model Briony Lewis is one of our very best models and she is building up a professional practice as a model. She now has her own website at www.lifemodellife.co.uk with news about where she works, drawing and painting sessions she puts on herself, the Artists she works with and loads more.
The Friends Institute, home of the Tuesday night Life Study group for a few decades now was earmarked for closure. The building is now safe till the end of the 2009/2010 taxyear.
